More than 280 representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs) working in the health sector across all of Myanmar’s States and Regions, Members of Parliament, and representatives from the Ministry of Health and Sports, the Ministry of Social Welfare, donor organizations and international non-governmental organizations gathered in Nay Pyi Taw to participate in Myanmar’s Third Civil Society Forum on February 27 and 28, 2018. Jointly organized by Pyi Gyi Khin and Community Partners International (CPI), and supported by the Three Millennium Development Goal Fund (3MDG), the forum provided an invaluable opportunity for participants to discuss key strategic directions for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Myanmar, and the important role of CSO’s in achieving Myanmar’s UHC goals.
Core topics of discussion included the role of CSOs in the rollout of Myanmar’s National Health Plan (2017-2021), in the ambitious goal to achieve UHC by 2030, and in the upcoming Universal Health Coverage Law. The forum was opened by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Sports Prof. Dr. Thet Khine Win and featured addresses from U Myint Swe, President of Ratana Metta, and Daw Nwe Zin Win, Executive Director of Pyi Gyi Khin.
