The Myanmar Liver Foundation (MLF) is the first registered liver foundation in Myanmar, which focuses on awareness raising, prevention, training, and policy advocacy for liver-related illnesses including Hepatitis infections. It was founded by the late hepatologist Professor Dr. Than Sitt with the combined efforts of clinicians, researchers, media personnel, celebrities, and entrepreneurs.
From its humble beginnings, the MLF now encompasses 17 branches across 17 of Myanmar’s townships as well as the Than Sitt Charity Clinics in Yangon and Mandalay. The clinics provide preventive services for liver diseases and comprehensive health care services for chronic hepatitis B and C patients at an affordable cost.
MLF’s major activities include prophylaxis, laboratory testing, screening of Hepatitis B and C, treatment, research, and capacity strengthening of medical doctors. Through their efforts and projects in partnership with USAID, B.K.Kee Foundation, and Unitaid, MLF has vaccinated over 500,000 people with the three doses of the Hepatitis B vaccine and provided Hepatitis C treatments to many more people.
