Representatives of 26 ethnic health organizations (EHOs) gathered for an historic first forum themed 'Better Health Together' held in Ngwe Saung, Myanmar between May 20 and 22, 2017, to discuss equitable pathways to health for all in Myanmar. The forum was organized and supported by Community Partners International (CPI) with additional support from Health Poverty Action (HPA) The forum provided a unique opportunity for ethnic health organizations to share perspectives and experiences, and forge consensus. Participants discussed a range of key issues including the health status of communities in ethnic areas, the ethnic health system and health policies, universal health coverage, and coordination and collaboration between EHOs, the Government of Myanmar (GoM) and the Ministry of Health and Sports (MoHS).
A series of key recommedations were made by EHOs to suppot the achievement of health for all in Myanmar in light of the GoM's ambitious goal to provide universal health coverage by 2030. A second EHOs forum has been tentatively scheduled for late 2017. Comments are closed.
