Professor Larry Diamond Discusses Democracy in Myanmar at CPI’s Inaugural ‘Speaker Series’ Event4/21/2019
On April 4, 2019, the Board of Directors of Community Partners International (CPI) welcomed Professor Larry Diamond, Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institute and at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University, to give a talk on ‘Democracy and Myanmar’. Professor Diamond’s talk is part of an ongoing Speaker Series in which CPI’s Board hosts thought leaders, entrepreneurs, academics and public figures in conversation with donors and community supporters. The talk took place at Stanford University’s Encina Hall. Alongside CPI’s Board, 20 invited guests attended Professor Diamond’s talk in person and via webcast.

On August 7, 2018, Community Partners International (CPI) held a ceremony in Yangon, Myanmar, to award scholarships to three members of staff to support their studies to obtain health-related Master’s degrees. CPI Executive Director Dr. Si Thura presented the scholarship awards to Ms. Nay Zar Win, Mr. Kaung Htet Soe and Dr. Zarni Lynn Kyaw. The awards highlight CPI’s commitment to support staff professional development, and the awardees will return to work with CPI once their studies are complete.

On March 12, 2018, in Yangon, Myanmar, Dr. San San Aye, Director General of the Department of Social Welfare (DoSW), and Dr. Si Thura, Executive Director of Community Partners International (CPI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) supporting a three-year initiative by CPI to provide Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Gender-based Violence (GBV) prevention and response services to conflict-affected communities in four townships of Kayin State, Myanmar.
