Responding to Infectious Disease: Policy and Practice (PloS Medicine, Oct. 2006)

The program withdrawals by the Global Fund, the World Food Program, the Red Cross and other major international non-governmental organizations from Burma highlight what has become a contentious and complex dilemma for the international community: how best to respond to the health crises affecting the people of Burma while ensuring access, and fiscal responsibility. The aid dilemma has become more compelling as Burma’s health and humanitarian crises have been increasingly recognized as playing important roles in South and Southeast Asia.
